Thought provoking piece, Jake. The guardrails for the current AI models don’t seem to be very well put in place, so I’m wondering if they were a secondary thought, rather than a basic premise.
The lonely as the persona/ICP - it's a hard one to fathom but it's genuinely real. Consumer tech mostly has misaligned incentives & so for many consumers this will end badly. Read about the guy who fell in love with his AI companion & then she left him as the system rebooted and all the memory was lost..☹️
With big tech focused on optimizing for engagement and profit, safety and second-order psychological effects aren’t really in the picture. We need more tech accountability. Thanks for throwing light on this really important subject Jake. I like the idea of prioritizing human conversation over an AI. I have fallen for artificial empathy and this is a great reminder to always go for human connection.

Sad to see technology become an even bigger graveyard for human potential.
AI companions will probably rank up there with the infinite scroll in terms of draining the spirit from our souls..

Tech accountability, that’s great
